The movie events take place in Baltic in 1915-1917. The movie characters are officers and private seamen of Baltic fleet. Arteniev, a senior lieutenant, is a brave and willful officer, a man of honor. He loves and he is loved, but he beloved one – Clara – works for counter-intelligence and they can’t be together. Not supporting rebellious seamen on his ship, Arteniev becomes a battery head to protect the most dangerous place in defense from the Germans. He looks for death.
