The events take place in siege Leningrad. A little girl Katya saves a little boy. She takes care of him, trying to protect him in this horrible time. She meets Captain Voronov who is trying to find his missing family. He gives Katya food which was supposed to belong to his family. Voronov gets to a hospital where Katya helps with wounded patients. Under the concurrence of circumstances, the captain realizes that the boy found by Katya is his son.
