The action takes place on the eve of the USSR’s complete collapse. Kalinovka village is experiencing crisis. More and more elderly people live there. Aleksey Voronin is one of the valuable persons in the village. He is young and energetic and operates a combine. When combine failure occurs, the local chairman decides to deduct the cost of repairs from the Voronin’s earnings. Then Aleksey decides to leave the village. But there is no one to replace him, and all the villagers are trying to stop the guy. But the chairman doesn’t want to make concessions. And then a hero gets a good opportunity to get work in a different place...
