Ebenezer Scrooge

Ebenezer Scrooge is an old miser and misanthrope who hates Christmas. He was born into a poor Christian family. Ebenezer spent his early years at the boarding school where his father placed him. Scrooge later enrolls as an apprentice in the warehouse of the cheerful and generous Master Fezziwig. And soon, together with Jacob Marley, he opens a loan office. Money gradually turns the young businessman into a greedy egoist. His young wife Belle cannot accept this and marries another man. Many years pass — Scrooge accumulates a huge fortune and buys a mansion. He does excellent business in the warehouse and is known among the merchants of the Royal Exchange as a man of good repute. But despite his wealth, Scrooge underpays his clerk and relentlessly harasses his debtors. One night, on Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by three Christmas spirits — the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. They warn him that he will be doomed to eternal torment if he doesn't change his attitude towards money and the people around him. From this moment on, Scrooge's life changes dramatically. He becomes more generous, accepts his nephew's invitation to Christmas dinner, provides for his clerk, and donates to a charity.
