Groot

Groot (also known as the Monarch of Planet X) is a character in the Marvel Comics universe, a loyal friend and associate of intergalactic criminal Rocket Raccoon. Groot is an intelligent tree-like humanoid from Planet X. He has a genius-level intellect but uses the singular phrase "I am Groot" in his speech, which conveys all of his emotions and needs. He initially considered it his mission to capture humans for his experiments. But in 2006, he defected to the side of the superheroes and joined the Guardians of the Galaxy in 2008. Groot is notable for his physical strength and possible telepathic abilities. Because of his enormous size, he is mostly used as a strike force for the Guardians of the Galaxy. Groot can control trees and other plant forms. He can increase his mass dramatically and reincarnate to create miniature copies of himself. Groot travels with Rocket to the Galaxy as a bounty hunter for hire. In a battle with Ronan, Groot displays his best qualities, saving his friends at the cost of his own life. But Rocket plants a sprout cut from Groot in a pot, which later grows into his baby version. Baby Groot became a full-fledged member of the team and participated in all missions. Later, the reborn hero was captured by the Ravagers in the company of a raccoon and Yondu. Thanks to his small size, Groot managed to escape from the cramped cage and soon freed his friends. Little Groot became an important character in the battle with Quill's father: he was entrusted with a key role in the operation to blow up the planet. As a teenager, Groot was into computer games and was aggressive and irritable. But as he grew older, his characteristic traits — kindness, loyalty, and the ability to show courage and bravery — returned to him.
