In the second round of the Copa del Rey, Arandina will face Cádiz at the El Montesillo stadium in Aranda de Duero (Castile and León). The hosts eliminated Real Murcia from La Liga at home in the previous stage, winning 1-0. The match was decided by a goal just before halftime by 22-year-old forward El-Battioui. The La Liga participant struggled away against Badalona Futur, a fourth-division team, in the 1/64 final, winning 0-0 and 4-2 on penalties. The guests had a numerical advantage from the start of the second extra time but failed to capitalize on it.

Arandina won Group 8 of the Tercera division and earned a spot in the Copa del Rey. This is only the third visit for the team, founded in 1987 after the predecessor from the same city ceased to exist. The team first participated in the national competition in the 1990/91 season. In the first round, the club from the Ribera del Duero region eliminated Palencia (0-1, 4-3), but in the 1/128 final, they were easily defeated by Ponferradina (2-3, 0-8). The team also participated in the 2015/16 Copa del Rey, eliminating Condal (4-1, extra time) before being knocked out by Reus Deportiu in the 1/64 stage, 2-4.

Cádiz has been eliminated at this stage six times since the early 2000s. In the 2001/02 season, the Yellow Submarine lost to Málaga, 1-2, and in the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons, they were defeated by Castellón, 0-1, and Granada 74, 2-3. In the 2010/11 competition, the Andalusians lost to Polideportivo, 0-1, and in the 2016/17 season, they were defeated by Córdoba, 1-2. Four years ago, in the 1/32 final, they were knocked out by Logroñés (1-1, 2-4 on penalties).
