The UEFA Champions League group stage draw will take place on Thursday. The main club tournament in Europe will follow a new format, with significant changes to this stage of the competition. The number of participants has increased to thirty-six, and there will no longer be eight groups — teams will now compete in a single league. Each club will play eight matches against eight different opponents from four pots—four home and four away games.

This innovation has been introduced to maintain intrigue and motivation, as in the past, playoff spots were often secured early, sometimes even in the second round. Only the top eight teams in the standings will qualify directly for the Round of 16. Sixteen additional teams will battle in knockout playoffs for a place in the next round.

The English Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Serie A have the highest representation — each of these top European leagues has sent four clubs to the main tournament.
