Since the 2000s, the sides have met six times in World Cup qualifiers on Peruvian soil. The hosts have claimed four victories, while the visitors have won twice. Nine years ago, the teams played a thrilling match in which La Roja secured a 4-3 away win. Last fall, the sides faced off in the first round in Santiago, where the former squad under Berizzo earned a 2-0 home victory, though they didn’t break through until the 74th minute. This remains the visitors' only win in the current qualifiers. Additionally, the teams drew 0-0 in June during the group stage of the Copa América in Arlington.

The hosts have the weakest attack in the qualifiers, with just three goals. In their last 14 official matches, the Incas have managed only one win — a 1-0 victory against Uruguay.
