In the opening round of Group B at the UEFA Women’s U-17 Championship, Poland will take on Italy at Tórsvøllur Stadium in Tórshavn. The teams have only met twice before. In the second round of qualification for the 2017 tournament, the Azzurre claimed a 2–0 win, scoring once in each half. Seven years ago, the sides also shared a group in the final tournament and played out a 0–0 draw. Both teams are currently unbeaten in their last four matches. The nominal visitors have also kept a clean sheet in all of them.

This is only the fifth appearance for the White and Reds in the continental championship. In the second qualifying round of this edition, they confidently topped Group 4. In the next stage, they defeated the Czech Republic 1–0, drew with Croatia 0–0, and routed Georgia 5–0. Roma forward Giulia Galli netted four goals during qualification, while Juventus midfielder Anna Copelli contributed three goal involvements.
