In the third round of Group A at the UEFA U-17 Championship, Portugal will face Germany at Arena Kombëtare in Tirana. These teams have met twice before in the group stage of the final tournament. At Euro 2014, the Seleção defeated Germany 1-0 in Attard, Malta, with Benfica's educatee Pepê Rodrigues scoring the lone goal. Nine years later, the German side thrashed Portugal 4-0 in Debrecen, Hungary, with Bayern Munich youth graduate Robert Ramsak netting a brace. They also played three qualifying matches, where the Portuguese side won twice (2-0 and 3-2) and drew once (0-0). In addition, the teams have faced each other in 11 friendlies, with four of them ending 1-1 and Portugal winning four times.

João Santos's side opened the group stage with a commanding 4-0 win over tournament host Albania. Porto forward Mateus Midê and Benfica striker Tomás Soares each recorded a goal and an assist. Portugal has failed to reach the knockout stage of the U-17 Euros ten times. Since 2011, the team has only been eliminated at this stage twice — in 2018 and 2023.

Germany began the tournament with a heavy 0-3 loss to France. Marc-Patrick Meister’s squad had a poor start, conceding twice within the first 12 minutes. Things got worse just before halftime when Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mussa Kaba was sent off. Die Mannschaft has exited the group stage of the U-17 Euros only four times, including in 2018 and 2019, when the team earned just three points in each edition.
