Kazakhstan opened their qualifying campaign with a 1–3 defeat in Cardiff against Wales. Ali Aliev’s team scored their lone goal from the penalty spot and registered just two shots on target. North Macedonia kicked off their campaign with a 3–0 win over Liechtenstein at Rheinpark Stadion, with Girona forward Bojan Miovski scoring and assisting. His goal nearly sealed a home win against Wales as well, but the Lynxes conceded in the sixth minute of stoppage time to draw 1–1. Blagoja Milevski’s squad is unbeaten in its last eight matches.
