Out of five friendly matches, each side has claimed two wins (1-0, 2-0 and 1-0, 2-1), while their most recent meeting in September 2019 ended in a 1-1 draw.

Germany, meanwhile, suffered a heavy 0-3 loss to the Netherlands, gave up a four-goal lead to draw 5-5 with England, and pulled off a dramatic comeback against Norway, winning 2-1 after trailing until the 85th minute. Viktoria Köln midfielder Said El-Malla has tallied four goal contributions in the tournament. Germany has reached the semifinals just three times previously and advanced only once — in 2008.
