In the fourth round of Champions League qualifying, Kairat will face Celtic in the decisive second leg at Central Stadium in Almaty. The first match in Glasgow ended scoreless, 0–0. The hosts dominated possession (75%) but failed to turn it into a lead. The Yellow-and-Blacks managed eight shots on the road but none on target. The reigning champions of Kazakhstan’s Premier League began their qualifying run from the Round of 16. They have won every home match so far without conceding a single goal. Under Rafael Urazbakhtin, the team defeated Slovan Bratislava 1–0, KuPS 3–0, and Olimpija Ljubljana 2–0 in Almaty. Celtic entered the competition directly at the playoff stage.

This is the first time the hosts have reached the Champions League playoff round. In this campaign alone, the Yellow-and-Blacks have already played more matches in Europe’s top tournament than in all their previous seasons combined (six and seven matches, respectively). Celtic have twice faced Kazakh opponents at this stage. On both occasions, the Scottish giants earned big wins at home but lost away — though those defeats ultimately made no difference. In the 2013/14 competition, the Glasgow club met Shakhter Karagandy (3–0, 0–2). Four years later, the British side eliminated Astana in the playoff round (5–0, 3–4).
