They later bounced back in Reggio Emilia with a 2-0 win against Moldova, despite allowing their opponent 18 shots. That was Luciano Spalletti’s final match in charge of the national team. Rafael Benítez and Claudio Ranieri were both considered as candidates for the job, but ultimately Gennaro Gattuso took over.

Estonia has already faced Israel twice (1-3 in Tallinn and 1-2 in Debrecen), stunned Moldova in Chișinău with a 3-2 win, and hosted Norway in a narrow 0-1 defeat. Midfielder Tõnis Mattias Käit has already scored twice in the qualifiers. The win in Chișinău was Estonia’s first official victory since September 2022, when the Baltic side crushed San Marino 4-0 in the Nations League Division D group stage in Serravalle.
