In the fourth round of Group A in the World Cup qualifiers, Slovakia will take on Luxembourg at City Arena in Trnava. The teams met last month in Luxembourg during the first leg, where Slovakia claimed a narrow 1–0 victory. The sides have faced each other three times in major tournament qualifying campaigns in Central Europe: in 2004 and 2015, the hosts won 3–1 and 3–0, while in 2023 the match ended in a goalless draw.

Slovakia opened their World Cup qualifying campaign with a confident 2–0 home win over Germany in Bratislava. Slovan Bratislava forward Dávid Strelec contributed a goal and an assist in that match. Francesco Calzona’s side are unbeaten in seven consecutive home games, a streak that began after a 0–2 loss to Austria in March 2024. During this period, the hosts have conceded only twice — both goals coming in a 2–2 Nations League draw against Sweden. In 2025, Slovakia’s only draw came against Slovenia, also in the Nations League, finishing 0–0.

Luxembourg began their qualifying run with a 1–3 home defeat to Northern Ireland. The team’s last away victory dates back to November 2023, when the Red Lions beat Liechtenstein 1–0 in Vaduz during the Euro qualifiers. In their previous seven away fixtures, Luxembourg have suffered five defeats and scored only twice. In August, the team appointed Jeff Strasser — the nation’s all-time record appearance holder — as head coach, though he has yet to earn his first points in charge.
