Dutch side Feyenoord hosts Greece’s Panathinaikos in the third round of the UEFA Europa League. The match will take place at De Kuip in Rotterdam. This will be the fourth meeting between the two clubs: the most recent one — a 2019 friendly — ended with a 3–0 win for the Greeks. Their previous European clash came in the 1984/85 season, when Panathinaikos won 2–1 at home, and the return leg finished scoreless.

Feyenoord opened their Europa League campaign poorly, losing to Braga on the road and Aston Villa at home. Arne Slot’s squad is under pressure, as a defeat in Round 3 could greatly complicate their path out of the group. However, in the Eredivisie the Rotterdam club is in excellent form: over the last two matchdays, they scored ten goals and conceded just twice, firmly staying among the league leaders. Their home support and strong scoring run provide reasons to expect that Feyenoord can finally break their European slump.

Panathinaikos started the campaign with a bright 4–1 win over Young Boys but unexpectedly fell 1–2 to Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles in the second round. The Athens club shows inconsistency and is still searching for balance between attack and defense. In the Greek Super League, Panathinaikos is currently seventh with a game in hand. Over their last five league matches, the Greens have two wins, two draws, and one defeat. Even so, their attacking unit can trouble any opponent, especially through active play on the wings.
