In Matchday 10 of the European qualifying campaign for the World Cup, Sweden will face Slovenia at Friends Arena in Solna. In the first round, Slovenia avoided a home defeat in Ljubljana by leveling the score at 2–2 in the 90th minute. The teams had previously met three times in Sweden. In May 2008, the hosts defeated the visitors in a friendly, 1–0, and eight years later the sides played out a draw in another exhibition match, 0–0. In autumn 2022, the teams competed together in the group stage of UEFA Nations League Division B. On that occasion, they split the points after exchanging first-half goals, 1–1.

Over their last eight away matches, Matjaž Kek’s team has defeated only Luxembourg and Kazakhstan, both by 1–0 scorelines.
