In the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal, the second leg between Arsenal and Sporting will take place at Emirates Stadium. The London club has reached the quarterfinals of Europe’s premier competition nine times in its history, but advanced further in only three campaigns. Notably, in six home matches in the tournament against Portuguese teams, the host has lost just once, in the 1991/92 season.

Sporting has played a number of difficult away matches in this European campaign, losing to Napoli 1-2, Bayern 1-3, Athletic 2-3, and Bodø/Glimt 0-3, while also drawing 1-1 with Juventus. Despite its struggles on the road, the Lisbon side’s leaders show excellent individual statistics: Francisco Trincão has recorded eight goal contributions, while Luis Suárez has seven. The Portuguese club is only participating in the quarterfinal stage of Europe’s most prestigious competition for the second time in its history. Previously, it reached this stage in the 1982/83 European Cup, where it was eliminated after facing Real Sociedad.
