An international friendly between Spain and Peru will take place at Estadio Cuauhtémoc. The opponents met twice in friendlies during the 2000s, and on both occasions, the Spanish footballers claimed 2-1 victories. In the upcoming match, the European side will try to take control of possession from the opening minutes and pin the opponent back in its own half. The Peruvian team may focus maximum attention on defense, attempting to close down open spaces.

Spain is in excellent form and, since March 2024, it has lost only to Portugal in the UEFA Nations League Division A final. In its previous eight matches, the hosts conceded goals only against Türkiye in World Cup qualification. In the other seven games, Luis de la Fuente’s side demonstrated a powerful attack by scoring twenty-seven goals. Peru has managed to defeat only Bolivia 2-0 in its previous eleven matches. That was the only clean sheet in the South American side’s last eight games. The national team has not faced European opponents since March 2023, when it lost to Germany 0-2. In six of its previous eleven matches, the Peruvians failed to score at all, and since June 2024, the side has earned only three victories. In the spring, the team lost to Senegal 0-2 and drew with Honduras 2-2 after surrendering its advantage in the 90+4th minute.
