In the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage, the Netherlands and Sweden will meet at NRG Stadium in Houston. The Netherlands is appearing at its twelfth FIFA World Cup in history. During the previous qualification tournament, Ronald Koeman’s side did not suffer a single defeat and scored twenty-seven goals. Forward Memphis Depay recorded twelve goal contributions, while winger Cody Gakpo added eight productive actions. While preparing for the World Cup, the team played a series of friendly matches in which it defeated Norway 2-1, drew 1-1 with Ecuador, and lost 0-1 to Algeria.

Sweden qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the thirteenth time. The national team performed poorly in the main qualification group stage, collecting only two points, but reached the playoffs thanks to its high ranking in the UEFA Nations League.
