Ukraine first participated in the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2004, and the upcoming competition will become its seventh appearance in history. In the opening qualification round, the Ukrainians confidently defeated Albania 3-0 in Durres, then overcame Montenegro and Slovakia by the same scoreline in Rrogozhine. In the next stage of the qualification cycle, the team beat Northern Ireland 1-0 and Kazakhstan 3-0 in Buftea, and shared the points with Romania in Voluntari after a 1-1 draw. The biggest contribution to the national team’s attacking success during qualification came from Matvii Ponomarenko, who scored 5 goals, and Hennadii Synchuk, who collected 4 points in the goal-plus-assist system.
