The first-round match of the Conference League league phase between Hajduk Split and Ajax will take place at Stadion Poljud in Split. The teams previously faced each other in European competitions in the 1990s, when the Croatian club recorded one home win and one draw. The hosts navigated a difficult qualifying campaign, reaching the league phase through the Europa League and Conference League qualifying rounds. The visitors also progressed through three qualifying stages, comfortably defeating Serbia's Vojvodina, Ireland's Shelbourne, and Switzerland's Sion. Both clubs head into this head-to-head encounter with a strong record of performances on the European stage.

Hajduk Split has shown solid defensive form at home in European matches. In its last 15 home games under UEFA's auspices, the Croatian team kept a clean sheet in eight. The club is appearing in the main or group stage of a European competition for only the third time in its history. In previous home meetings with Dutch teams at Stadion Poljud, the Croatian side defeated PSV 2-0. Ajax has performed confidently away from home in the Conference League. In five away matches in the tournament, the Amsterdam club has suffered just one defeat, losing 0-4 to England's Aston Villa. Historically, trips to Croatia have also gone well for Ajax: in four matches against Dinamo Zagreb, the visitors recorded three wins and one draw. However, the club has consistently conceded goals in its last eight international matches.
