The hosts secured three victories, but their last success on home turf dates back to 1981 (2-0). Since then, the Belgian side avoided defeat against France at home only in a 2013 friendly, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Additionally, the teams faced off in the previous edition of the Nations League, where the French won 2-1 in Brussels thanks to a brace from forward Randal Kolo Muani.

In the previous Nations League tournament, the Belgian national team earned just four points in the group stage, but retained its place in the top division following play-off victories against Ukraine (1-3 and 3-0). Unbeaten on home soil since November 2024, when they fell 0-1 to Italy, Belgium kept five clean sheets and scored 25 goals in their next six home fixtures. The French national team claimed bronze medals in the previous edition of the Nations League by defeating Germany 2-0 in the third-place match. Over the past four years, the French side failed to score on the road only in the quarter-finals of the previous competition against Croatia in Split (0-2). During the same period, the French players dropped points away from home on just two occasions: a 2-2 draw against Greece in Euro qualifying and a 2-2 draw against Iceland in World Cup qualifying.
