The third-round match of the Champions League league phase, Como — Manchester United, will take place at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. In September, the Italian club played its first-ever home match in European competition, routing German side RB Leipzig 4-1. The English team comfortably defeated Azerbaijan's Sabah 4-0 in its opening home fixture, scoring three goals before halftime. The upcoming game will be the first meeting between these opponents on the international stage.

In a short period, Como has gone from the lower divisions to competing in Europe's premier club competition. As recently as 2019, the team was playing in Italy's fourth tier. It then won its Serie C group before finishing second in Serie B at the end of the 2023/24 season and securing promotion to the top flight. The club has been impressive at home: since March of this year, it has suffered just one defeat at its own stadium in all competitions, losing to Inter Milan.

Manchester United has struggled in away matches in the Champions League. In its last 11 away games in the tournament, the visitors have recorded just two wins, beating PSG 2-1 and Villarreal 2-0. Over the past eight years, the English club has kept a clean sheet away from home in Europe's premier club competition only twice, including in a match against Swiss side Young Boys. Trips to Italy have also proved difficult for the visitors: in 17 matches against Italian teams, they have recorded just five wins.
