The third-round match of the Europa League league phase between Juventus and Rennes will take place at Allianz Stadium in Turin. The teams previously met in the 1999 Intertoto Cup final, when the Italian powerhouse won 2-0 thanks to a brace from Filippo Inzaghi. The hosts began the main stage with a commanding 5-0 victory over the Netherlands' NEC Nijmegen, with substitute Randal Kolo Muani contributing a goal and an assist. The French team opened its campaign with a draw against Austria's Sturm Graz, scoring an early goal that was ruled out by the officials after a video review.

Juventus has suffered just four defeats in 66 home matches in the tournament. Throughout its history in the UEFA Cup and Europa League, the team has lost at home only to Twente, Hamburg, Cagliari, and Olympiacos. The Italian side has hosted French clubs four times, defeating PSG and Lyon and recording a 1-1 draw with Nantes. In the 21st century, the hosts have kept a clean sheet in nine of their 16 home matches in European competitions.

Rennes has recorded nine wins and 18 defeats in 30 away matches in the UEFA Cup and Europa League. Draws on the road have been particularly rare for the team: the French club has shared the points away from home just three times, including a recent 0-0 draw against Sturm Graz. In Italy, the visitors have previously lost to Udinese, Lazio, and Milan. They have also failed to score in three of their last five away matches in the tournament.
