The events take place in the beginning of the XX century in one of the least developed areas of Italy, which was tired from rebellions of poor people and peasants. Salvatore is one of these poor people, and he makes the living from agriculture and tillage. He decides to make a desperate step – to immigrate to America with all his family. Before that, he meets a mysterious girl, who also wants to go to this country. They get married and leave. However, they will have to wait for a final verdict at a border zone to learn whether they will be allowed to live there or not.
