1562, France is managed by Charles IX, the country is plagued by religious wars. Marie de Mezieres, one of the richest heiresses of the kingdom, loves the young Duke of Guise, later nicknamed "Bullseye", and he, as it seems to her, shares her feeling. However, the girl's father, the Marquis de Mezieres, seeks to raise his family and marries his daughter to the Prince de Montpensier, whom she does not even know. Prince Charles IX is to join him in the fight with the Protestants.
