The action of this psychological "western" takes place in the 1920s in a small provincial town in the south of Russia. The Civil War is over, but the complete victory of the Bolsheviks is still far away. A group of bandits from former White officers rob a train carrying gold on which it was necessary to buy bread for the hungry, and five friends, former Red officers, begin a mortal combat with them. It turns out that the suspicion of treason falls on one of them (Bogatyrev's first role in a feature film), and having escaped from his comrades, he alone must return the gold to prove his innocence.
