The end of 1918, in the midst of a civil war. In Ukraine, still ruled by Germans and hetman, Petliurists prowl outside of Kiev. But Red troops are approaching the Ukrainian capital. For a family of the Turbins, as well as for all Russian officers and nobles, it was a time of troublesome thoughts and decisions, the time of tragic losses.
