The American South, 1960s. Skeeter has just graduated from university and returned home in the sleepy town of Jackson, where nothing ever happens. She dreams of becoming a writer, to break into the big world. But a decent girl from the South ought not to amuse herself with so silly illusions, a decent girl should marry and take care of the house. Ф цise Eybilin is thirty years older than Skeeter, she served in homes of whites for all her life, nursed seventeen children and has long waited for nothing from life, for her heart is broken after the death of her only son. Minnie is the best the cook in Jackson, and yet she is the most impertinent maid in the city. Her sharp tongue has repeatedly done her a disservice. Minnie never stays for a long time at one place. But even the most arrogant white lady should not deal with Minnie. Two black maids and a white inexperienced girl share one thing - a heightened sense of justice and a desire to somehow change things. Will these three confront the whole world? Will they be able to survive in this fight?
