Residents of the station sincerely envied people driving by them. Arina worked at station as the cook. She was about 40, ugly, dirty, ragged, she was shifting fromfoot to foot, narrow scarry eys were shining on her spotted face her surrounded with wrinkles. She was aloner. But one day a switchman Gomozov ,who also was lonely person and has recently lost his family, asked to sew few shirts for him . And then invited her for the evening – to drink a cup of tee, to have a nice talk. Arina has left his house by daybreak . So they lived hiding all the dirt. But the residents found out about theit relations. They prepared scurrilous wedding for Arina and Gomozov.Arina was motionless as if she was dumb,having her head hanged down . And when the confused, embarrassed Gomozov began to assent to people around, accusing Arina of all, she turned and went to the heath.
