The movie revolves around the volunteers who signed up for the National Guard of Ukraine. A former Afghan War veteran, aka Old man, teaches them the subtleties of intelligence work. Among them, there are people of different social backgrounds - a scientist, an entrepreneur, a student, a lieutenant of the internal troops. Will they be able to find a common language to become a powerful military force together?

The military drama The Guard is filmed by Ukrainian director Oleksii Shapariev, known by the work on the movie Kiev Cake and the TV series The Last Cop. The scenario, based on real events that occurred in Ukraine in 2014, was written by debutant Nikola Rybalka. Interestingly, the shooting of the series took place in Vasilkov of Kiev region on the basis of a military unit, and the premiere took place on Ukrainian television in 2015.

The leading role was played by Aleksei Gorbunov, who starred in more than 140 projects and became famous thanks to the TV series Grass Under the Snow and the movies 12, The Spy. The famous Ukrainian actor with his customary charisma and professionalism embodied the image of an experienced military old-timer. It is also worth noting that the six-time Champion of Ukraine according to the IPSC version, Sergey Streltsov, was one of the advisers on weapon training, and the song “Zhura” (Grief) was performed by Maria Khmeleva and the Yo'Ghurt band.
