Polly's orderly life in a secluded mansion collapses after a nighttime visit from a strange old woman. The uninvited guest hands the girl a black box and predicts her imminent death. Attempts to get rid of the ominous gift only tighten the noose of fear: the object returns to its owner in an inexplicable way.
