Scott struggles with addiction and leads a reckless life. The appearance of his mother’s ghost forces him to return to his native Louisiana to the relatives he once abandoned. In the old house, he meets his brother and his wife, Katherine, who was once Scott's lover. The hero's unexpected arrival disrupts the familiar peace and awakens forgotten feelings.
