Events develop in Chukotka in the distant 1930-1940. The story of the hunter Poygin, on the way in which a series of events takes place, is a meeting with a Black shaman who will try to conquer his woman and so on. All this affects the future of the hunter, who will eventually become the chairman of the first collective farm in Chukotka.
