The end of the First World War. Human lives mean nothing to Captain Pradelle. He sends two soldiers, a brilliant artist Edouard Péricourt and an ex-postman Albert Maillard, to their doom. Edouard saves his friend but his face gets disfigured. He declares himself dead and starts creating incredible pictures and Albert becomes his impresario.
