In the early postwar years the small mining community near Tula was a refuge for no one except women and adolescents. Women were working in the mines equally with men. Kids were living their own lives and were subordinate to a 17-yers old criminal nicknamed “The Beast”. He was always dissatisfied with something; everybody was afraid of him and was trying not to have any business with the man. The Beast was arrested after he murdered a police officer.
