During the war, Olga has been one of hundreds thousands of our citizens who were turned out to the West. Olga gets a position of a switchman on a station. Trains with prisoners of war go through this station regularly. Olga and an engineer Fyodor organize prisoners’ escape, which, however, fails. Fyodor was saved from shooting by a miracle. After the war, the characters meet again at a hospital, where the engineer is down in the hospital with burns after a catastrophe.
