Andrey Bolotov, a graduate from a Leningrad party school, came to one of the Western districts of the country in March 1946 in order to build a peaceful life on the land where unbeaten fascist bands keep raging. Andrey gets a task to organize the transportation of prepared wood from faraway plots, but he barely escapes Krakovsky, the “wood brothers”. The party school probationer and the local Soviet village chief together with the residents will have to enter the fight with one of the most numerous fascists divisions, which consists of betrayers, deserters and fighters against the Soviet power.
