Medieval Europe in the times of inquisition. The end of the XVI century. There is a small town called Elesdorf (literally, “a village of donkey”), which doesn’t exist in reality in Austria, in Burgenland, in Vena suburbs, and it is under the rule of a clergy court. A strange young man who said his name was Filipp Traum and that he was a traveling magician visits the town. Later Traum admits that he is the Satan (or Satan’s nephew). Boys come to him with requests, become excited from each new trick the mysterious stranger performs and without fearing the consequences, they ask him to predict their destinies. However, the predictions are not as good as they wanted them to be. The boys plead Traum to recreate the future again.
