A small Russian town of the 70s. Four sisters are working on the farm as milkmaids, going through different situations, solving their own problems. The oldest had to raise three youngers after their mother died. Because of this she gave up her fbeloved, and now doesn’t know whether she can meet him again. Another is torn between her husband and the hometown. The third sister can’t give birth to a boy, but her husband wants a son. And finally, Masha's husband died a few years ago, and she can not move away from the tragedy. Will they be able to cope with their problems and overcome such issues that are so important to them?
