Athletic — Cádiz
Athletic — Cádiz
Kick-off on: 16.09.23 15:00.
Back in February, the Basques thrashed the Yellow-Blues 4-1 at San Mamés. It was a standout night for Oihan Sancet, who netted a hat-trick. In their last home game, the Red-and-Whites pulled off an impressive comeback against Betis — down 0-2 by the 10th minute, they rallied to win 4-2. After four rounds, the Andalusians have played only one away match, which they lost to Barcelona at Estadio Olímpico, 0-2.
Watch Athletic vs Cádiz live — over the last 30 years, the teams have met only four times in Bilbao, each side claiming two victories. Three of those matches ended 1-0. Amorebieta (Segunda División) have taken forward Jon Morcillo on loan — he played 53 games for the Lions since 2020. The Biscayan side also extended veteran Raúl García’s contract — he turned 37 this summer.
Forward Nico Serrano has been loaned to Dutch side Zwolle. He scored once in 14 La Liga appearances during the 2021/22 season. His peer Álvaro Marín also moved to the Netherlands, joining Helmond Sport in the second division. Watch Athletic vs Cádiz live.
Defender Raúl Ruiz left Athletic as a free agent and signed with Valladolid’s reserve team (Segunda B). The club also parted ways with Unai Naveira, who found a new team at San Lorenzo (Argentine Primera División).
Cádiz brought in midfielder Robert Navarro on loan from Real Sociedad. Four years ago, the Royal Club paid €4 million to Monaco for him, but he mostly played for the B team. He did, however, score four goals in five appearances in last season’s Copa del Rey. The Yellow-Blues spent €2.5 million to sign Malian midfielder Rominigue Kouamé N'Guessan from Troyes, where he had played since January 2020, totaling 109 matches. They also brought back Uruguayan striker Maxi Gómez to La Liga — he previously impressed at Celta with 39 goal contributions in 75 appearances. Watch Athletic vs Cádiz live.
