The Ota City General Gymnasium in Tokyo will host the bout between Brian Norman Jr. and Jin Sasaki. The American fighter is preparing for his second defense of the WBO title in the 147-pound division. He first retained the belt in March, when he stopped Puerto Rican boxer Derrieck Cuevas in the third round in Las Vegas. His upcoming opponent defeated fellow countryman Shoki Sakai by unanimous decision in January at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo — it was his fifth successful defense of the WBO Asia Pacific welterweight title.

“The Assassin II” began his professional career in early 2018. Since then, the Decatur, Georgia native has won 27 of his 29 fights, with nearly 80% of his victories coming by knockout. Norman captured the WBO belt in May 2024 after knocking out fellow American Giovani Santillan in the tenth round in San Diego. Prior to that, Brian also held the WBO International title in the 147-pound division.

Jin Sasaki made his pro debut seven months after his upcoming opponent. He has 19 wins in 21 fights, with only two of his bouts going to the judges' scorecards. The Japanese boxer claimed the WBO Asia Pacific welterweight title in January 2023, knocking out compatriot Ryota Toyoshima in under two minutes. A native of Hachioji, Sasaki will be fighting in the United States for the first time. Nearly all of his bouts have taken place in Japan, with the only exception being a fight against Sirisak Pimpasitt in Bangkok, Thailand, in April 2019.
