Turkey – Georgia
Turkey – Georgia
Kick-off on October 14, 2025, at 21:45.
In the fourth round of Group E in the European qualifiers for the World Cup, Turkey will host Georgia at Kocaeli Stadium in Izmit. Earlier this fall, at Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi, a brace from Galatasaray striker Kerem Aktürkoğlu helped the visitors secure a 3-2 victory. Shortly after halftime, the Crescent Stars led 3-0, but the opponent nearly came back. The teams have met twice previously in Western Asia: in 2002, the hosts won 3-0, and in 2004, the national sides drew 1-1 in Trabzon during World Cup qualifying. Kocaeli Stadium, which will host the match, opened in 2018 and has a capacity of 34,829 spectators.

Under Vincenzo Montella, the Turkish team suffered a heavy 0-6 defeat against Spain following their meeting with Georgia in Konya. In October, the squad bounced back with a dominant 6-1 win over Bulgaria in Sofia, with Real Madrid forward Arda Güler contributing four goal involvements. Turkey has won five of their previous nine home matches. In three of the last four home games, the Crescent Stars scored only one goal. Overall, Montella’s team shows strong attacking form, netting 16 goals in their last six matches, keeping them comfortably among the leaders of Group E.
Georgia defeated Bulgaria 3-0 in Tbilisi, but then lost 0-2 to Spain at Manuel Martínez Valero Stadium in Elche. PSG forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has scored twice in the qualifiers. The Crusaders have suffered six defeats in their previous nine away games. During this period, Willy Sagnol’s team conceded at least twice in five matches. Since March 2021, the South Caucasus side has recorded just one draw away from home — a 0-0 friendly against Albania in Tirana in spring 2022.
