In the final of the European World Cup qualification playoffs, Bosnia and Herzegovina will face Italy at Bilino Polje Stadium. Previously, the national team reached the World Cup qualification playoffs in 2009 but lost twice to Portugal by a 0–1 scoreline.

During the qualification campaign, the Italian side suffered two heavy defeats to Norway but performed successfully against Israel, Estonia, and Moldova.
