In the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage, Switzerland will face Bosnia and Herzegovina at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The opponents’ previous meeting took place ten years ago in a friendly match, when the Bosnian side claimed a 2-0 victory in Zurich. While preparing for the current tournament, the Swiss team lost to Germany 3-4, shared the points with Norway in a 0-0 draw, and crushed Jordan 4-1. At the end of May, the visitors played a home friendly against North Macedonia, which ended without goals.

Switzerland has arrived at the thirteenth FIFA World Cup in its football history. During the qualification cycle, Murat Yakin’s squad confidently finished first in its group and remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. The team dropped points only in away matches against Kosovo, 1-1, and Slovenia, 0-0. The main creators in attack were forward Dan Ndoye, who collected five goal contributions, and midfielder Ruben Vargas, with four goal contributions.

Before the current edition, Bosnia and Herzegovina had participated in the FIFA World Cup final stage only once, in 2014. In the main qualification round, the Balkan side missed out on direct qualification after drawing with Austria 1-1. The team had to fight its way through intense playoff matches. First, the squad defeated Wales in a penalty shootout after equalizing in the 86th minute, and in the decisive clash, it overcame Italy. In the final match, the Bosnian side trailed during the game but fired thirty shots and eventually secured victory in the penalty shootout.
