The film is about a real special operation FBI carried out in the late 70's-early 80's under the code name of Abscam. It was initially aimed at the investigation of trafficking and selling the stolen goods. The FBI was going to embed its agents into a criminal environment under the guise of middlemen who buy stolen masterpieces for wealthy collectors in the Middle East. Subsequently, the operation turned into a denunciation of corruption at different levels.
