Freddy Heflin has admired policemen since his childhood. He was never able to become a police officer because of his partial deafness. However, due to his easygoing and open nature, he becomes sheriff in a suburb in New Jersey, near New York, and lives in a town populated mostly by his colleagues from the Metropolitan Police of New York. Threads of investigation of mafia cops lead Moe Tilden - an investigator from the Department of Homeland Security - to the town, to the sheriff Freddy Heflin. Heflin begins to help Tilden and soon discovers that his heroes may be not so infallible.
