1921. Eva with her sister Magda leave their native Poland in search of the Promised Land, which they see in New York. Upon arrival, Magda, who has tuberculosis, is placed in quarantine. A lonely and confused Eva is caught in a net of a shameless pimp Bruno. To save her sister she is ready to make any sacrifice and agrees to become a prostitute. The appearance of the illusionist Orlando, Bruno's cousin, returns confidence and hope for better days to the girl. But she forgot about Bruno's jealousy.
