The film is set in the thirties of the last century in Ivano-Frankivsk, then called Stanislaviv. Empires and ruling regimes are changing, warring with each other. Several families of different nationalities live in one house, and their life cannot be called happy and peaceful. Thanks to Sofia's singing teacher, the children forget about the horrors of the present.
